While function is essential in creating spaces that people love to live in, striving for excellence also means finding real inspiration on every project and holding that vision to its realization. Star looks at the project through the clients' eyes and then uses her experience to enhance their initial vision. Star's favorite quote from Khalil Gibran is: "Beauty is not a need but an ecstasy." This soulful concept is truly at the heart of the Star Pierce Design philosophy.
Bringing a sense of the sublime to the homes she works on, Star has evolved as an interior designer through more than 25 years in the profession. She has deepened her artistic vision over time and has learned the importance of surrounding herself with top quality people from craftsmen and expeditors to financial consultants. This strong group of collaborators ensures that the execution of creative ideas flows smoothly. Her studio is committed to excellence and executes each artistic vision within all of the given parameters. As anyone who runs a business knows, it takes time, soul searching, the right people and attention to detail in order to meet and exceed expectations.
Star attended the University of California at Berkeley, majoring in Women's Studies. Prior to becoming an interior designer, she realized her innate passion for art and design by opening Brava Strada, her own retail establishment in Pacific Heights. Many of her first interior design clients discovered Star's creativity amid the adobe walls of this elegant shop. As proprietor, buyer and interior designer, she further honed her eye for beauty in classical and unconventional objects, spaces and the environment.
Star's love for nature eventually moved her to Marin County where she established her namesake firm, Star Pierce Design, in 1995. Today she designs and fabricates furniture from reclaimed wood to add character and breathe life into a room. Before it became of mainstream interest, Star was an advocate of sustainability and today is particularly mindful of green design.
Enlivening spaces is her specialty, whether custom residential construction or extensive home renovations. Working closely with architects, she collaborates early on in the process to design custom homes with exquisite architectural details. Whether projects call for striking modern minimalist or a juxtaposition of styles, her range of work is consistently exciting. Star deftly works with complex color palettes as well as simple subtle hues.
Star approaches each project with the openness of a beginner's mind and the heart of an artist striving for mastery. Known as creative and unconventional, Star's enlightening ideas are executed with ease, grace and impeccable taste. Her sense of humor and genuine interest in people makes her accessible and receptive, which is the cornerstone of her refreshing and innovative approach.
